Senior Thai Official Thanks Cambodia for the Good Cooperation Between the Two Countries

PHNOM PENH: The Thai Ambassador to Cambodia has expressed his appreciation to the Cambodian Government for its resilient leadership in all areas as well as for maintaining strong ties between Cambodia and Thailand.

A meeting between senior Cambodian and Thai officials took place on Tuesday morning, 13 September, at the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) headquarters, in the presence of the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the RCAF, Lt. Gen. Hun Manet, and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand in Cambodia, Panyarak Poolthup.

During the meeting, the Thai Ambassador praised the good cooperation between Cambodia and Thailand, which has been maintained even during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Despite the circumstances of the Covid-19 outbreak, trade activities between the two countries continues to run smoothly, which has allowed this closeness to continue to strengthen and expand in the future,” he said.

He also expressed his appreciation for the rapid development and growth Cambodia has made in all areas, including in the defense sector, under the leadership of the Royal Government of Cambodia.

In response, Lt. Gen. Hun Manet also spoke of the strong bilateral relations and good cooperation between the two countries, within both regional and international forums.

Regarding the cooperation between the two country's militaries, the RCAF Deputy Commander-in-Chief, highlighted that much progress has been made. He also added that the cooperation between the two militaries has been smooth and has achieved good results, reflected in the development of closer relations between its units, especially in the conduct of training and joint exercises.

It should be noted that the "Conditions on Cooperation Between the Army of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and the Army of the Royal Thai Army" was officially signed on 3 February 2022.

Lt. Gen. Hun Manet also thanked Thai Ambassador Panyarak Poolthup for his efforts and achievements made in strengthening and enhancing relations between the two countries armies and peoples. These include providing development assistance and mutual support during the Covid-19 crisis, and Thailand's support for Cambodia’s 2022 ASEAN Chairmanship and measures taken towards resolving the crisis in Myanmar.

He added that this also reflects the spirit of friendship, respect, and mutual trust between the two countries and peoples as neighbors as well as ASEAN members.
